12 sheets home made
filo
dough or store bought filo 500gr
good quality feta cheese ½ liter
milk ½ cup
butter melted ½ cup
olive oil 8
large fresh eggs Fresh
ground white pepper Preparation
method
Mix
olive oil with melted butter.
Grease a 24x36cm-baking pan with the oil
and butter mixture and spread 4 sheets of home made phillo, butter each
one. In
a bowl crumble feta cheese add pepper and divide in three equal
amounts. |
On
the 4th phillo brush with butter as always and spread
crumbled feta cheese. Place
one more sheet of phillo, brush with oil/butter and spread cheese. Follow
the same as the second stage and top with four more sheets of phillo,
brushing always with butter/oil. With a sharp knife cut the top 6
sheets of phillo without cutting the first 4 sheets in the bottom. Whisk
eggs add milk and left over butter and oil and pour it over the
surface of the pie and bake immediately in 200c-400f pre-heated oven
for 45 minutes. Remove
pie from the oven and let it settle for 10 minutes. Serve as a meal
accompanied with green salad. Above
cheese pie can be prepared with store phillo, but you add four sheets in
the bottom of the baking pan, two each layer and four on top. Note:
Always remember to brush each phillo with butter. Barrel
feta cheese and commercially prepared phillo are available at Greek and
major Supermarkets |
