3 cups all purpose flour 1 1/2 cup warm milk 1 teaspoon sugar 2 teaspoons dry yeast 1 fresh egg lightly beaten ½ cup chopped walnuts, or more ½ teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons melted butter Canola oil for frying Pure Greek honey and cinnamon powder |
Dissolve dry yeast in a bowl with half of the warm milk and let it rice in warm place. Add sugar, egg, remaining milk and melted butter. Sift flour with salt in a large bowl and add all liquids gradually and mix until smooth and elastic dough. Cover with cloth towel and let it rise in a warm place for one hour or more, until batter is doubled in size and top is bubbled. Fill a deep saucepan with canola oil heat very hot 190ºc-375ºf. Stir batter and drop 8-10 teaspoons batter each batch, turning regularly to brown all evenly. Remove with slotted ladle and drain them on absorbent paper. Place loukoumades in a plate pour thin stream of honey spread the chopped walnuts and dust with cinnamon. Serve immediately piping hot.
